'It was nothing': Ex-GOP strategist rips Trump interview with 'horrible conversationalist' Musk
Donald Trump has only used his account with X, formerly Twitter, sporadically during the Joe Biden era, pushing his own Truth Social platform as his primary social media outlet. But on Monday, August 12, Trump was interviewed live on X by CEO Elon Musk.
The fact that the event was delayed and suffered technical difficulties has been receiving a lot of attention in media reports. But during a conversation posted by the conservative website The Bulwark the following day, Never Trumper Tim Miller's main complaint isn't the event's technical problems — the former GOP strategist argues that the Trump/Musk conversation was just plain uneventful.
Miller told his Bulwark colleagues Sam Stein and Marc Caputo, "You would think that at least Elon would have interesting thoughts…. Or want to talk to Trump about something that's a little offbeat. One of his weird interests about space or sci-fi movies or cars or something. But it was nothing."

Miller continued, "He's a horrible conversationalist. His questions go on forever. And it was just like two guys in a bar talking about: Will you tell me the one time that you did something great? And they talk for 20 minutes. It was nothing."
Caputo argued that the interview was unlikely to help Trump's 2024 campaign.
Caputo said, "The reality is, I can't think of one person who listened to this who didn't have their mind made up. I'm not sure who it persuaded."
Stein agreed that the interview was unlikely to sway undecided voters in Trump's favor, telling Miller and Caputo, "If the Trump campaigned wanted to have sort of a humanizing conversation, this was probably not the right place to do it…. It just felt like it didn't really move the needle…. In terms of substantive stuff, there just was not much."
