In some September 20 posts on X, formerly Twitter, right-wing radio host and Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro warned GOP primary voters that they are setting themselves up for failure when they refuse to nominate "normies."

But journalist Osita Nwanevu, in response, reminded Shapiro that he is among the people who is helping push Republican primaries to the far right.

Shapiro tweeted, "Perhaps the American primary voter should start nominating normies for high office. I dunno. Just a thought."

In a separate tweet, the radio host elaborated, "By 'normies,' I don't mean people who don't know or care about policy. I mean people who lead normal lives: who don't go to sex parties while locking you down in NY, or spend their days trolling porn sites leaving strange comments, or nail powerful politicians just to get ahead."

The "porn sites" comment was in reference to the latest scandal involving far-right North Carolina GOP gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson — who reportedly made extreme comments on an adult website, including describing himself as a "Black Nazi" and calling for slavery to be reinstated.

Nwanevu wasn't impressed with Shapiro calling for GOP primary voters to nominate "normies."

The journalist, known for his work for The New Republic and The Guardian, posted, "Republican primary voters are growing attached to lunatics because people like you, specifically, make money terrifying them and turning their brains into custard."

Vera Institute's Brian Tashman, formerly of the American Civil Liberties Union, similarly suggested Shapiro is the one who's "been radicalizing GOP voters."
