'Bend the knee': MSNBC hosts set off shockwaves after meeting with Trump at a Mar-a-Lago

Conservative former Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Florida) and liberal Mika Brzezinski, the hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," have been scathing critics of President-elect Donald Trump. Scarborough, an outspoken Never Trumper who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, has made no secret of his view that Trump has been terrible for the Republican Party — which he left — and the conservative movement.
Trump, Scarborough has repeatedly argued, flies against many of the principles that GOP conservatives of the past — from President Ronald Reagan to the late Arizona Senators Barry Goldwater and John McCain — embraced.
But after Trump defeated Harris, the "Morning Joe" hosts met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago — a move that, they, doesn't change their views on him, but signals a desire to "restart communications" with the president-elect.

Trump, after the meeting, claimed that Scarborough and Brzezinski "congratulated me on running a ‘great and flawless campaign, one for the history books."
But on "Morning Joe," they explained their reasons for going to Mar-a-Lago.
Scarborough explained, "It's going to come as no surprise to anyone who watches this show…. That we didn't see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues. And we told him so."
Brzezinski added, "What we did agree on was to restart communications."

Scarborough and Brzezinski's meeting with Trump is drawing a variety of reactions on twitter.
The right-wing Geiger Capitol tweeted that "Democrats never actually thought Trump was Hitler or a fascist dictator."
But X user Sasha Sinclair was highly critical of the "Morning Joe" hosts for meeting with Trump, posting, "So Joe and Mika go bend the knee to that man and this is my shocked face…. They were first in line, like it was a Black Friday sale."
Joe Cuban, another X user, argued that meeting with Trump "destroys any credibility with their viewers."
