'Spineless' Marco Rubio lampooned for defending Trump rally’s racist joke

Former President Donald Trump's supporters have been defending him aggressively following the controversy that has followed a comedian's racist comments at a campaign rally at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 27.
The MAGA comedian told the crowd, "I don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico."
Hinchcliffe's joke set off a major backlash among Puerto Rico residents as well as among Puerto Ricans living in the Continental United States.

In an October 28 post on X, formerly Twitter, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) — who is Cuban-American — called out Hinchcliffe while trying to distance Trump from his joke. But Rubio's tweet has inspired some scathing responses.
Rubio tweeted, "Puerto Rico isn't garbage, it's home to fellow American citizens who have made tremendous contributions to our country. I understand why some people were offended by a comedians jokes last night. But those weren't Trump's words. They were jokes by an insult comic who offends virtually everyone, all the time….. because that is what insult comedians do."
The Florida senator continued, "What isn't a joke is how Kamala Harris destroyed our economy and allowed dangerous criminals to illegally enter our country and terrorize, rape and murder Americans. And what isn't a joke and truly outrageous is how 'journalists' are helping Kamala Harris's with her dangerous campaign of hate by calling Trump the new Hitler and how MSNBC used old footage of Nazi rallies TO SMEAR TRUMP SUPPORTERS AS NAZIS!"
In response, some X users reminded Rubio that Hinchcliffe's joke was approved before the rally took place.

Civil rights attorney Andrew C. Laufer posted, "Those jokes were approved by true Trump campaign, Senator. Incredibly spineless not to acknowledge that."
MeidasTouch posted, "Trump has literally been calling America a 'garbage can' at every recent rally, Little Marco. He also called his political opponents the 'enemy within' and threatened to use the military against them."
Jared Ryan Sears told Rubio his claim that "those weren't Trump's words" doesn't hold up.
Sears tweeted, "It was Trump's rally, and Trump's team decides who speaks at his rallies. Anything and everything said at those events directly reflects on Trump. Trump has demeaned Puerto Rico in the past, including saying that Puerto Ricans wanted everything done for them when they wanted some hurricane disaster relief. Watching all of you MAGA sheep politicians line up to try and excuse every terrible thing Trump does is sad and tedious. Fortunately, Trump will lose again, and then after he lies about the election for a while, we can all move on without him."
