Watch: Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro strikes last-minute plea deal with Georgia prosecutors

Kenneth Chesebro, who is one of the 19 defendants named in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' sprawling RICO indictment, is now willing to plead guilty in order to avoid a trial.
In a series of posts to X (formerly Twitter), Lawfare correspondent Anna Bower stated that Chesebro is due to plead guilty to at least one felony charge in the Fulton County election interference case. The news of Chesebro's apparent plea deal comes on the same day jury selection was due to begin for his trial.
According to Atlanta-based ABC affiliate WSB-TV, Chesebro was set to go on trial with co-defendant Sidney Powell next week for allegedly conspiring to send a slate of "fake electors" from Georgia and a handful of other pivotal swing states like Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The fake electors scheme was allegedly plotted as a means of allowing former President Donald Trump to stay in office despite losing the 2020 election.

Chesebro, considered one of the key architects of the fake electors plot, initially rejected the plea deal, which would have kept him from serving time in prison in exchange for serving three years of probation and paying a $10,000 fine. However, he likely changed his tune after the news of Sidney Powell's guilty plea went public. According to NBC News producer Kyle Griffin, Chesebro is expected to perform 100 hours of community service, service five years of probation, pay a $5,000 fine, testify truthfully in further proceedings, write an apology letter to Georgia residents, and continue providing additional documents and evidence as needed.
In addition to Sidney Powell's guilty plea, she is also serving probation, paying a fine, and is expected to testify as a witness against other Fulton County defendants like Trump and some of his top lawyers including Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman. Powell was also made to write her own apology letter to Georgia residents.
With Chesebro pleading guilty, there are now 17 other defendants in Fulton County who are due to stand trial for violating Georgia's RICO statute and counts of conspiracy to commit election fraud.
