'Horrible news' for Trump: 'The mask is coming off' — exposing facade of 'Project 2025' denial
Election 2024

Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's detailed 900-page blueprint for a second Donald Trump presidency, is being slammed as overtly "authoritarian" by its critics. And Trump has responded by trying to distance himself from Project 2025, claiming that he knows nothing about it — a claim echoed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and other Trump supporters.

Trump, on his Truth Social platform, even attacked some of Project 2025's proposals as "absolutely ridiculous and abysmal."

But Trump's critics are saying that efforts to distance himself from the Heritage Foundation's proposals are disingenuous. And Newsweek's Ewan Palmer, in an article published on July 11, reports that the Heritage Foundation will play a prominent role in the 2024 Republican National Convention.

According to Palmer, "The Heritage Foundation is set to hold a day-long 'policy fest' in Milwaukee on July 15, the first day of the convention where Trump will be confirmed as the GOP's 2024 presidential nominee. On July 17, The Heritage Foundation is listed as hosting a social event at Uncle Buck's, per the RNC's calendar…. Mark Pocan, a Democratic representative from Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District, suggested that it is 'horrible news' for Trump that The Heritage Foundation will be at the RNC as the former president attempts to dismiss claims Project 2025 is linked to his campaign."

In a July 10 post on X, formerly Twitter, Pocan posted, "Front page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Project 2025 Author To Be Sponsor Of RNC. Horrible news for Trump, GOP. The mask is coming off. Project 2025 is Trump's agenda for a second term. And YOU are targeted. All of you. Get to know how you and your family will be hurt."

Marc Broklawski, a Virginia Democratic Party official, is arguing that Project 2025 is very much a reflection of Trump's plans for a second presidency.

Palmer quotes Broklawski as saying, "(Trump) can fake amnesia all he wants, but the mask is off and the nightmare is real.

President Joe Biden has been attacking Trump for "trying to hide his connections" to Project 2025's "extreme" proposals.

Biden argued, "The only problem? It was written for him, by those closest to him. Project 2025 should scare every single American."
