US Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) on night one of the Democratic National Convention took several digs at Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-OH).

The Guardian's Hugo Lowell reported that the Maryland lawmaker invoked January 6 during his DNC speech, saying: "Someone should’ve told Trump that the President’s job under Article 2 of the Constitution is to take care that the laws are faithfully executed, not that the Vice President is executed.'"

Raskin served on the January 6 committee a impeachment manager in Mr. Trump’s second impeachment trial, during which seven Republican senators joined every Democrat in voting to convict the former president of incitement of insurrection for his role in the mob attack on the Capitol.

The Nation's Elie Mystal noted that Raskin said, "This sore loser [Trump] who doesn’t know how to take no for an answer from the American voters, American courts, or American women."

MSNBC analyst Brian Tyler Cohen wrote that Raskin also said: "JD Vance, do you understand WHY there was a job opening at the top of the ticket? They tried to kill your predecessor."

Andrew Weissmann noted: "Raskin calls JD Vance: Trump's 'pet chameleon.'"

Weissmann added that the congressman's speech "about justice and the rule of law, after recovery only recently from a grave illness," was a "poignant moment."
