House Republican urges GOP to 'offer solutions' besides banning abortion

United States Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) this weekend pinpointed the GOP's lack of a cohesive plan regarding reproductive health other than its ongoing push to outlaw abortions.

Speaking with anchor Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday, Mace offered several recommendations for how Republicans could maintain their "pro-life" credo through compromises on other policies.

"And again, I represent a purple district. I talked to a voter the other day and she left the Republican Party over this issue. She's an independent voter. She's pro-choice. Her gestational limits, for example, are at fourteen weeks. I'm a pro-life legislator. I'm at fifteen to twenty weeks, and so there's a lot of middle ground. I think it's important on how we talk about these issues and offer solutions," Mace said.

"We've got fourteen counties in South Carolina that don't have a single OB-GYN doctor," Mace continued.

"So if we're gonna ban abortion, what are we doing to make sure women have access to birth control? What are we doing about, how do we improve adoption services in our country? What about the kids that are not wanted? What about our foster care system? What about getting nurses that can treat women who need, you know, OB-GYN care in those rural areas? What are we doing about getting birth control over the counter at pharmacies?" Mace wondered.

"There are a lot of things that we can do to protect life and not alienate the independent voter," she concluded.
